Dissertation note: Undergraduate Thesis Summary: This research aimed to identify the contributions of garlic to science, and culinary arts. Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: 1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of: 1.1 Age: 1.2 Gender: 1.3 Civil Status? 2. How do the respondents perceive the contribution of garlic in the following: 2.1 Science; 2.2 Culinary Arts? 3. Is there a significant difference on the perceptions of respondents as regards to Garlic in terms of its contributions to Science and Culinary Arts when grouped according to age? The significant findings were the following: 1. Based on the date shown it revealed that majority of the participants were in the range of 18-20 years old with 31 respondents or 62%, followed by 20 years old and above with 10 respondents or 20%, lastly, 18 years old and below with 9 respondents or 18%. This study was dominated by female respondents with 27 respondents or 54%. While, there were only 23 or 46% male respondents. Single respondents got the highest score with 43 respondents or 86%. There were only 7 married respondents or 14%. 2. Gleaned on the data presented it revealed that approved as botanical medicine got the highest mean with 3.58 interpreted as strongly agree, approved as veterinary medicine and perceived as dietary supplement got 3.24 interpreted as somewhat agree, perceived as aphrodisiac got 3.08 interpreted as somewhat agree and improves skin conditions got 3.0 interpreted as somewhat agree. 3. It shows the groups, mean and the verbal interpretation of the respondents. It also shows that highest average of respondents is 18 to 20 years old and the lowest is 18 years old. Most of the respondents answers are strongly agree on the questions. The sources of variation between groups are not significantly different at 0.05 levels. Means followed by a common letter are not significantly different at 0.05 levels by DMRT. Conclusions Based on the foregoing findings the following conclusions were drawn: 1. The study is dominated by 18-20 years old. Most of them were female and single. 2. It is empirical that botanical medicine got the highest mean with 3.58 interpreted as strongly agree. 3. It is observed that there is no significant difference in the perceptions of respondents as regards to garlic in terms of its contributions to Science and Culinary Arts when grouped according to age. Recommendations Based on the foregoing conclusions the following recommendations were drawn: 1. When considering the use of herbal supplements, consultation with a primary health care professional is advisable. 2. If you have bleeding or blood clotting disorder or diabetes, or if you are taking any medicines to prevent or treat a blood clotting disorder or diabetes, do not take garlic without first talking to your doctor. 3. Garlic has been reported to affect blood clotting and blood sugar levels. 4. Do not use different formulations (e.g., tablets, topical formulations, teas, tinctures, and others) of garlic at the same time, unless specifically directed to do so by a health care professional. Using different formulations together increases the risk of an overdose of garlic, 5. Do not take garlic without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. It is also not known whether garlic will harm a nursing infant. The amount of garlic customarily used in foods is not reported to be problematic. 6. Consultation with a licensed health care professional is advisable before using any herbal/health supplement. Additionally, consultation with a practitioner trained in the uses of herbal/health supplements may be beneficial and coordination of treatment among all health care providers involved may be advantageous.
