| Summary, etc. | Strabismus, commonly identified by the misalignment of the eyes, has long been considered a clinical and visual issue. However, when this condition goes undiagnosed- especially in subtle or intermittent forms- it can lead to significant psychological consequences. Individuals with undiagnosed strabismus often struggle with self-perception, social anxiety, and emotional distress without understanding the root of their experiences. Recent studies have shown that visual appearance significantly impacts psychological well-being, and strabismus is no exception. Even in the absence of diagnosis, misalignment can disrupt social interaction and trigger internalized feelings of embarrassment or low self-worth. The quality of life in individuals with strabismus is known to be impaired, and this is further complicated when the condition is not formally recognized. The stigma associated with abnormal eye alignment often leads to diminished confidence in school, work, and social settings. Without proper identification or intervention , these individuals may continue to suffer from unseen barriers in daily functioning and overall well-being. Despite these negative outcomes, support systems counseling have proven effective in mitigating such as peer understanding, family involvement, and psychological counseling have proven effective in mitigating these effects. Psychological and emotional support can significantly enhance adaptive coping and promote better mental health outcomes. Awareness campaigns and school-based screenings may also play a critical role in identifying undiagnosed cases early, allowing for both medical and psychological interventions. This study aims to explore how the invisible burden of undiagnosed strabismus shapes the psychological lives of those affected, while emphasizing the importance of early recognition and comprehensive support systems. |
