| Summary, etc. | This study strives to investigate the extent of out-of-field teaching practice in selected public schools in the Divisions of Paranaque and Las Pinas. More so, it intended to determine the reasons, challenges and impct of this phenomenon with an end-view of reconceptualizing an intended policy reform. It utilizes quantitative descriptive method using survey questionnaire among 100 teacher-respondents from the two mentioned schools divisions. Data were treated using frequency and percentage, weighted mean, standard deviation and t-test. Results showed that out-of-field teaching is practiced in both divisions to a moderate extent, obviously due to teacher shortage in specialized fields in times of influx of enrollment each year in public schools. As such, this incidence creates issues on teacher's capacity in handling non-specialized fields, tedious preparations and extra time and effort in exploring new lessons and appropriate strategies. However, it carries positive effect of navigating new knowledge and becoming dedicated to the professional field in performing this noble task of making every student gain what he/she needs to learn. Hence, there is no significant difference in the extent of out-of- field practice, the reasons, challenges and impact as perceived by the respondents from two participating divisions. And to resolve the identified issues, a new concept of policy was designed as output of the study. |
