| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | The study is about the effectiveness of management rendered by nurses as perceived by disheartened patients. Disheartened is defined as a sense of feeling down, depressed or anxious because of emotional factors or economical factors and not because of their illness. It is a state of anxiety and depression regardless of their medical condition. Disheartened patients are those who are in the hospital wards and overstaying because of financial matters. The respondents or subject of investigation should be under the criteria of "disheartened". It should be 18 years old and above. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of management rendered as perceived by disheartened patients and the relationship to their age, gender, educational background, civil status and length of hospital stay. The study was done in selected hospitals in Metro Manila. The sample target was obtained by interviewing disheartened patients of the said institution. Most disheartened patients who were interviewed belong to 18-28 age range. Many people feel anxious about long-term situations that they cannot influence, have feelings of anxiety with a no known trigger, or worry helplessly about events taking an unlikely catastrophic turn. 58% of the respondents are high school graduate. Most of the respondents answered that therapeutic communication helped them cope with anxiety and depression. Most of the respondents replied that they feel good and happy, calm and comfortable, at ease and can feel a good change despite of their condition which indicates that the said interventions had a good benefit for them. Based on the research, the interventions and the management done by the nurses in response to the respondent's anxiety and depression were proven effective in alleviating the plight of the respondents. Simple therapeutic communication among others, help in decreasing the anxiety and depression of disheartened patients. The degree of their anxiety and depression was decreased from moderate to mild therefore proving that the interventions done were effective. The conclusion was based on the statistics done by the researchers that made them accept the null hypothesis which states that age, educational background, civil status and length of hospital stay have no significant relationship on the perception of the effectiveness of management given to patients except for gender. |
