FINDINGS 1. The study revealed the demographic profile of the respondents of this study. Lastly, the frequency and percentage distribution of respondents according to their monthly income revealed that majority (66%) of the respondents eam around Php 10,000 and below per month, and 54% of the respondents only earn below Php10,000 but have managed to care for their newborn, 3. Highest average mean of response on attitudes was posted at 4.78 (strongly agree) about breastfeeding. For practices, highest response was posted at 4.72 (Always) about bathing the baby. This is because most of the first time mothers strongly agreed to it. Meanwhile, the lowest was 2.16 points on cord care where first time mother doesn't seem to practice. CONCLUSION The following conclusions were derived from the findings of this study. 1. There is a significant difference between educational attainment of the respondents of this study to newborn care. The respondent's age, civil status, income and socio-economic status have complied with the newborn care. Having a good educational background can give better results of newborn care. 2. Based on the data gathered and analyzed, it is concluded that the majority respondents of this study strongly agreed about the proper attitudes on newborn care, including the procedures. Also most of the respondents practiced the proper newborn care. RECOMMENDATIONS As the results of this study, the researchers were able to come up with the following recommendations: 1. Promote the exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, and initiate breastfeeding within about one hour of birth and frequent breastfeeding among first time mothers. Also, maternal nutrition should be promoted during pregnancy, Post Partum, and during lactation. 2. Enhance capacity and capability of health facilities for post partum mothers on neonatal care by strengthening community-based support system and interventions. 3. Foster linkages with advocacy groups and professional organizations to promote child care specifically neonatal care. |
