Dissertation note: Undergraduate Thesis Summary: Every year many lives are lost because of the spread of infections in hospitals Infection is cause by the growth of parasitic organism within the body. In order for infection to spread, all the links in the chain of infection must be connected. Reservoir, portal of exit from reservoir, means of transmission, portals of entry, susceptible host. and infectious agent. Considering the consequences of the said infections all hospital is trying their best to prevent such occurrences, It is the reason that the infection control committee of any hospital is created. The purpose of infection control are emphasized to; a) minimize infection and hopefully to obliterate b) improve wound healing c) minimize disability morbidity and mortality and to reduce the cost of hospital care. The ever present threat of infection requires constant vigilance on the part of nurses by preventing breaks on chain of infection through adhering infection control measures. Like proper aseptic technique, and in operating room, nurses should follow the prowiples of sepsis. However, a recher has personally owed that a corn times Oft nurses take infection control mesures for granted, Some OR personnel are entering the OR theater without wearing proper OR attire, over crowded OR theater not adhering proper scrubbing, gowning and gloving The study attempts to determine the compliance of OR personnel, stadena nurses and clinical instructors of infection control measures specifically, it sees to answer the following sub-problem 1. What is the profile of OR personnel, student nurses and clinical instructor in terms of a. age b. gender c. What length of exposure in OR d. Profession of the respondents in OR 2. What is the level of knowledge of the respondents on infection control? 3. What is their extent of compliance to infection control measure at the OR? The Researchers will utilize a descriptive and correlational type research in which collection of the data will be used through questionnaire which will be answered by the OR personnel including student nurses of Olivarez College and University of Makati prior to exposure at Operating Room and Delivery Room in order to obtain meaningful information, to test and to obtain answer from the written questionnaires regarding the current status of the subject in the study. In this study, the researchers aim to determine the compliance if C personest eluding studerend by the respondents in relation to influencing variables in the clinical per OR/PACU In this study, the researchers use validated questionnaire which adopted from thesis enntled "Compliance to infection Control Measures by the Operating Room Personnel at the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital" by Maria Wilde Bonto-Laguno to determine the level of knowledge of the respondents. The researcher sends permission to acknowledge her works. The researcher also use "Check Est for Aseptic Technique" from Fundamentals of Nursing by Barbara Kozier which provide information about the standards of aseptic technique. The researchers acknowledge and adopt the validated questionnaire from former researcher. Permission from the Medical Director of the hospital x through the Chief of Nursing service will sign first before take off of this undertaking. Upon approval the researcher will conduct an orientation of all those who will be included in the study. The objective is to gain the cooperation and support of the respondents. The OR personnel should be rate using the observation check list for compliance to accuracy of performance of the principles of surgical asepsis and infection control practices based on standards. 1. Majority or 60% of the respondents are student nurses. 2. Majority or 33.33% of the respondents belong to the age group of 25 to 30 years old 3. Majority or 80% of the respondents are female. Majority or 53.3% of the respondents with din lengte of spam in balong to below 1 year in service. Majority of the respondents which are student marom got the score of 14 77% some of them were knowledgeable. 5. Majority of the respondents which are OR nurses got the score of 5 or 62.5% some of them were knowledgeable. 7. Majority of the respondents got the result of excellent which is surgeon, CB- Gynecologist, Anesthesiologist and Pediatrician 8. The respondents wears OR attire frequently as they enter the OR theater but most of them do not remove all their jewelries as they enter the sterile field. 9. The respondents some of them follows the surgical scrub procedures but some of them were not because of time management 10. The respondents not able to achieve most of their gowning techniques which leads to contamination of their hands. The neckline, shoulders, areas under the arms and the back may become contaminated by perspiration or by collar and shoulder and shoulder and surfaces rubbing together during head and neck movements. 11. The respondents not able to remove all their jewelries before the procedure. ased on majority findings, the following conclusions were drawne Majority of the respondents are 25 to 30 years old, female and length of exposure in OR below 1 year in service. Based on the data gathered throughout the course of this study, it has been found that there were a higher number of shaders, 18 out of 30 sprindimas. who were knowledgeable about infection control measures who rated 77% wit of 18 respondents. While everyone in both classifications of respondents had encountered the principles of infection control at some point during their undergraduate comes or through supplementary seminars they may have attended there is a difference between students and OR personnel. These findings may be due to several factors that may affect awareness. It may be considered that awareness is affected by the fact that the students are still in the process of studying principles and even during duty hours under their related learning experience; clinical instructors are always there to remind them and discuss how these infection preventive measures apply, thus resulting in easier recall that translates to higher awareness levels. As per OR personnel who are already employed and working for quite a time. awareness levels may have dwindled through time, or because they are more! focused on applying the standard in the operating room, which is the principles of sterile technique. Although the aseptic technique may overlap with infection control measures, it may be considered that OR personnel who were subjects in this study may not be aware that some practices observed in the OR are actually infection control measures. Lastly, lower levels of either awareness or compliance may be attributed to lack of supplementary seminars and courses that will help refresh these principles in the minds of either students or hospital personnel. This study attempts to measure the levels of awareness and compliance among nursing students and operating room personnel of a selected hospital sample. Results revealed an inverse relationship between subject classifications. There was a higher rate of knowledge and awareness among students while there was a poor level of compliance among OR personnel. Considering all the factors mentioned in the conclusion that tries to account for these results, it is recommended that students be given more opportunities to practice the application of infection control measures during their duty hours: Activities may also be incorporated in skills laboratory classes so that students may have a better understanding of how these measures are applied thus increasing compliance levels during actual procedures.
