Undergraduate thesis.
This study aims to offer insight into the lived experiences of individuals who have experienced parental neglect as a child and its influence on their psychological well-being in San Isidro, ParanÌaque City. The researchers chose approximately ten (10) participants between the ages of 18-25 years old, using a semi-structured interview technique that also gave an equal amount of time to answer the following question to be considered. The study{92}s findings revealed the consequences of parental neglect. The gathered participants unveiled that neglected children frequently feel unwanted and may get angry with their parents, which can negatively affect their mental health. Some of them interpret neglect as a means of self-reliance or as a way for them to stand on their own feet. The coping mechanism worlds differently for each one; some seek their peers for support while others immerse themselves in work. However neglectful parenting can lead to negative outcomes such as leading to trust issues, aggression, anxiety, trauma, and social-emotional challenges. It is significant for the well-being of individuals, families, and the community to understand the impact of parental neglect. It can be a basis for establishing interventions and raising awareness to address and avoid parent negligence, eventually resulting in healthier individuals.
