Dissertation note: Undergraduate thesis. Summary: Reading is a necessary skill that each person needs to acquire in order to survive in the fast- paced developing world that we live in. Amidst the pandemic, devastating report by the World Bank (2021) has surfaced. Children all around the Philippines are experiencing learning poverty and this adversely affects their reading proficiency. According to the report, data gathered from 2019 shows that students who reached Grade 5 still showed signs of learning poverty and poor reading proficiency. This study aimed to enlist various strategies that the students use to enhance their vocabulary, determine how they apply various vocabulary learning strategies in terms of visual, auditory, and tactile, find out whether there is a significant difference in the utilization of vocabulary learning strategies when grouped according to their profiles, and develop a training plan that will be beneficial to the students, faculty members and the school administration. In the research stated that vocabulary learning strategies can accelerate various learning developments including reading proficiency. The study was conducted to determine whether it makes any significant difference in learning vocabulary and in improving skills. The researchers conducted a survey asking 124 Grade 7 students from Paranaque Science High School to enlist the vocabulary learning strategies they use and answer how frequent they utilize some of it. They survey also included follow up questions that was aimed towards collecting personal experiences of the respondents to allow the researchers to reflect on it and use it as basis for a more meaningful output. The quantitative data was submitted to a statistician for analysis and interpretation and the results are as follows: 1. The vocabulary learning strategies that the respondents use include different types and are utilized depending on their preference. Among the listed learning strategies, looking up the meaning of the newly encountered word is the first thing that they do. It is followed by guessing the meaning from context. Among the other strategies using newly learned words in sentences, taking notes, or highlighting it, and asking the teacher to give the definition were part of the top 5 strategies used. 2. Utilization of Vocabulary Learning Strategies of the Respondents Described in Terms of: Visual. The result show that the respondents overall described visual strategies as {93}Often{94} which implies that most of the use visual strategies often. Auditory. The findings demonstrate that the majority of respondents describe auditory tactics as {93}Often{94} implying that they employ auditory techniques frequently. Tactile. The Findings suggest that the majority of respondents described tactile methods as {93}seldom{94} implying that they are rarely used 3. Significant Difference Between the Respondents{92} Utilization of Vocabulary Learning Strategies when grouped according to their Gender. The result were determined to be non- significant for all indicators with p-values more than the 0.05 level of significance, including {93}Visual{94} (0.439), {93}Auditory{94} (0.087), and {93}Tactile" (0.324). This means that when respondents are categorized by gender, there is no significant different in their use of Vocabulary acquisition strategy in term of visual, auditory and tactile. 4. Significant Difference Between the Respondents Utilization of Vocabulary learning strategies when Group According to their age. The result were determined to be not significant all markers such as {93}Visual (0.683), {93}Auditory{94} (0.540), with p-values greater than the 0.05 level of significance, This means that there is no significant difference in the respondent{92} use of vocabulary. Acquisition strategies in terms of visual, auditory, and tactile when grouped by age. English language learners can successfully improve their vocabulary when given support and scaffolding (Kayi- Aydar, 2018). In other words, students needs all available help they can get and that includes vocabulary learning strategies that would aim then in acquiring vocabulary knowledge easily. In this constant evolving world that we live in where varied non sense trends pop up at almost an hourly rate we need something that would assist us in learning more important things. Students need their professors to supervise and mentor them as they manage their study time to maximize their learning both inside and outside of the classroom during the process of vocabulary growth (Rogers, 2018). The current era that we live in fills the minds of individuals with informal and senseless words. This contributes to the learning poverty that most Filipino children experience. Vocabulary learning strategies can help combat these challenges in efficient learning. The results that come from the personal experiences of the respondents allowed the researchers to conclude that utilizing different learning strategies provide better understanding of word meanings. Furthermore, to support efficient learning, teachers should also be aware that vocabulary learning strategies can be incorporated in the teaching- learning process. They should utilize it in conjunction with other tactics to maximize their pupils{92} learning of the subject.
