One of the most active trends in software development is adaptive development methodologies. The unified process (UP) is an example of an adaptive methodology that is also influencing many more radical approaches. The idea behind adaptive methodologies is that software projects need to be agile, or flexible, because the business world is unpredictable and changes so rapidly.
