Dissertation note: Master Thesis Summary: Marriage is the family's basic foundation, strength, and support as well as the fountain head for continuity and solidarity. As a sacred, long-term commitment, marriage has become infused with one's hope and fear and many consider being married and having children as their goals. Marriage provides human interpersonal satisfaction. Married couples face basic challenges which allow the development of patterns of interaction to bring about changes and growth. How couples respond to these changes and challenges vary greatly. To some, marital misunderstandings may cause a cold war between husband and wife. Some couples have the ability to modify their habits to avoid the turbulence that may be caused by inevitable changes. Others run into serious difficulties and their marriage sometimes ends up in marital dissolution. Marriage has been a resilient institution. It has remarkable survival power under changing conditions. Like the other social institutions, marriage has a life of its own and makes its own contribution to society. It influences and reflects the rest of the society as well.
