Master Thesis
Education has altered tremendously as a result of the Covid-19 epidemic, with the emergence of online learning, where teaching is done remotely and on digital platforms. The assessment and monitoring of online learning was brought up to be one of the things that must be looked upon the changes brought by the pandemic. As a result, the researcher utilized the Exploratory Sequential Mixed Methods Research Design that aims to explore the experiences of the Strand Coordinators, teachers, and students in assessing and monitoring online learning, and the challenges that emerged through observation, interview, and survey. The study was carried out in Olivarez College Tagaytay Senior High School Department. Strand Coordinators, SHS Teachers and students were purposely sampled. Focus group discussions were conducted with the three groups from the studied school to obtain necessary data. Based on the results of the qualitative phase of the study, three themes were identified: (1) Creative Integration of online assessment strategies with subthemes (1.1) Utilization of Online Open Source Platform, and (1.2) Localization and Contextualization of online learning materials and assessment strategies; (2) Increasing Engagement in the Virtual Classroom with (2.1) Building Teacher- Student Relationship through Quality Feedback,(2.2) Recognizing small wins to motivate as subthemes; and (3) Time-on-Task in achieving the most essential learning competencies with(3.1)Consistency in Progress Monitoring and (3.3) Maintaining open communication in the online learning. However, the results of the quantitative phase of this study indicates that the extent of implementation of online assessment of learning and monitoring in the new normal was rated as Fully Implemented. However, the indicator under the lowest category of utilization of open-source platform must be given focus was the consideration of the user{92}s feedback on the utilization of online open-source platform in assessing learning. While the category utilization of open-source platforms which got the highest mean score among the four categories in challenges encountered must be given attention. The researchers came up with an enhancement of the assessment framework for the Senior High School Department that will help the teachers to cope up to the situations that they are facing.
