It seems to be found everywhere. In a contemporary office, computers have become essential. They make feasible multifarious automated ofice systerms which can strikingly escalate effectiveness and efficiency of office activities and communications. In modern factories, computers help step up the quaiity and efficiency of manufacturing operations. In store terminals optical scanning "wands" are used to read price tags of merchandise items,. In medicine, particularly in advanced diagnostics treatment devices, computers are utilized. Even patient monitoring and medical records processing have been automated with computers, In banking, depositing and withdrawing have likewise been automated. In science and engineering, they have been indispensable implements for scientific analysis, experiment monitoring, and engineering design In schools, computers have become common educational tools to facilitate learning and teaching. In the home, they have become ordinary appliances as parents and children alike use them for entertainment, personal productivity, and home management. Indeed, the use of computers has become vital to the operations and management of business firms, government agencies, and the rest of society. Computers have molded society in fundamental ways. Nowadays, almost any job a person wishes to get in the future will involve a computer in some way. The computer is the force why we are in the" age of information" Recently, Robert Savage, the managing director of IBM Australia, disclosed that some 25,000 positions in the information technology business are now vacant in his country. Also, around 150, 000 information technology positions are vacant in the United States (Panorama, 15 August 1999).
