Master Thesis
The study sought to analyze the needs of teachers and young professional transients who lived within the vicinity of Mary Immaculate School in the City of Paranaque to serve as a basis for establishing a lodging house managed and run by the Religious Sisters. The study was made in the academic year 2014 - 2015, a work which was initiated in January 2014. The surveys were conducted during the entire month of February 2014 after the proponent was granted approval for the said study on January 25, 2014.Specifically, the study answered the following questions: 1. What is the current situation common among transients staying in lodges? 2. What is the perceived need for putting up lodging houses for teacher and young professional transients? 3. How are the existing lodging houses run by Religious Orders compared in terms of: 1.1 Mission; 1.2 Structure and location; 1.3 Services offered; 1.4 Management system; and 1.5 Rental and utility fees? 4. What are the common challenges encountered in putting up and maintaining lodging houses run by Religious Orders? 5. What are the benefits/gains that can be elicited from the transients and Congregation from putting up a lodging house? 6. Based on the result of the study, what intended feasibility project can be developed? The researcher utilized a self-made questionnaire and unstructured information to answer the problems posed in this study. In using the questionnaire as an instrument in collecting data, it gathers the information needed faster than any other method. Besides, the respondents were teachers and young professionals and so they are very literate. They could read and answer the questionnaire with ease. For validation purposes, the questionnaire was given to five people who will assess the questionnaire according to various criteria and rating scale provided in the validation tool. They have to indicate the degree of validity for each criterion based on the attached questionnaire from not valid to being very much valid. The criteria validates the clarity of the directions or instructions, the heaviness or lightness of administering the questionnaire, the reasonable length of the questionnaire for the respondents to answer, its appropriateness for the level of the respondents, the relevance of the content to the study as well as to the program/area/field, the clarity and focus of the questions, and the evaluation if the questionnaire can be used for need analysis purposes. The respondents are the thirty female teachers of the Mary Immaculate School and other young professionals within the vicinity of the school whose ages range from 20 to 39 years old who come from different provinces in the Philippines like Tarlac, Pampanga, Pangasina, Ilocos Sur, Sorsogon, Zamboanga and Negros Occidental and opted to work here in Manila, particularly in Paranaque. There are 25 teachers, 1 flight stewardess, 1 psychologist, 1 female security guard, 1 nurse and 1 banker. The data were statistically treated by the use of percentage and frequency distribution for the needs analysis of the teacher and young professional transients. Weighted mean was also used for the computation of the perceived needs of the respondents.
