This research was undertaken to gain and answer the problems of this study, which is to determine the effects of abuses on selected college students of Olivarez College: An Analysis Specifically, it answered the following questions: 1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of: 1.1 Age 1.2 Gender 1.3 Onset of Abuse 1.4 Type of abuse 2. To what extent have the abuses affected the respondents: 2.1 Socially 2.2 Emotionally 2.3 Behaviorally 3. Is there a significant difference on the extent of the effect of the abuses on the respondents? In this research study, the respondents consisted of 15 selected abused students of Olivarez College in Parañaque City. The researchers believed that they were an integral part of the study. The study focused only on the social, emotional, and behavioral aspects of the respondents. The respondents were given standardized test such as: Bradshaw's Wounded Child Questionnaire and Sack's Sentence Completion Test (SSCT); as well as Self-made questionnaires which gathered data from the respondents. The Bradshaw's Wounded Child Questionnaire covered information about certain aspects of a person such as; identity, basic needs, and social aspect. The Sack's Sentence Completion Test (SSCT) had revealed information about the subject feelings towards family members, and other significant people, as well as his emotional condition and self-concept. The results of these standardized tests were both confidential. The self-made questionnaire, on the other hand, provided further data about the social, emotional and behavioral aspect of the abused respondent. Moreover, the researchers made use of some approach such as interview and observation. To acquire the needed data, the researchers administered Sack's Sentence Completion Test to 20 suspected abused students of Olivarez College. These suspected abused students were based from interviews. After the interpretation and screening of the tests, it was found out that 15 had actually experienced abuse. As a supporting data, these 15 abused students were given Bradshaw's wounded child test to measure their emotional condition. Afterwards, the researchers had set series of appointments with the subjects/respondents of the study for interview, and administered the self-made questionnaires. The researchers gave the instructions and guided them throughout answering the series of tests. The researchers utilized the descriptive type of research in order to provide an accurate description of a situation or of an association between variables from which one can make statements about the certain problem. Statistical treatment such as percentage; weighted mean and one way ANOVA were used to interpret and analyze the gather data. The following were the findings of the study: 1. On the demographic profile of the Respondents, Forty Percent (40%) of the respondents were eighteen to twenty one (18-21) years old; Thirty three point thirty three percent (33.33%) of the respondents were Twenty two to twenty five (22-25) years old; twenty percent (20%) of the respondents were below eighteen (18) years old and six point sixty seven (6.67%) of the respondents were over twenty five (25) years of age. As to gender, Sixty six point sixty seven percent (66.67%) were females and thirty three point thirty three percent (33.33%) were males in the studied. As to the onset of abuse, Sixty percent (60%) of the respondents were abused at the age of twelve to eighteen (12-18) years old; twenty percent (20%) of the respondents were abused at the time of six to eleven (6-11) years old. 2. On the extent of the effects of the abuses on the social aspects when grouped according to the type of abuse, the highest mean was dependence with the mean of 2.944, interpreted as moderate extent. On the other hand, the lowest mean of 2.056 was noted in the social skills deficits e.g. decrease empathy and inability to make friends. Next, was the extent of the effects of the abuses on the emotional aspects when grouped according to the type of abuse, the highest mean was mood swings with the mean of 3.00 which was interpreted as moderate extent. This was followed by dissociative state which got the lowest mean of 2.00 interpreted as least extent. Lastly, the physical and verbal aggressiveness had the highest extent of effects on the behavioral aspects with the mean of 2.833 which was interpreted as moderate extent. It showed also that delinquency and criminality got the lowest mean of 1.333 interpreted as least extent. 3. The significant difference of effects of abuses when grouped according to types of abuse, the null hypothesis was accepted due to the F value or ANOVA value of and a level of significant value of 0.241 for the over-all mean of the three (3) aspects of the respondents. Based from the findings the researchers concluded that most of the respondents belonged to eighteen to twenty one (18-21) years old since most of the students who voluntarily shared their experience were within this age, while the dominant gender among the respondents were females. Also, a great number of respondent's states that they were abused at the age of eleven to twenty (11-20) years old. Lastly, majority of the respondents were physically and emotionally abused. Dependence was the dominant choice of the respondents when they were asked to assess the effects of abuse on the social aspects when group according to the type of abuse. Most of the abused children often displayed externalizing behavior pattern that may range from being clingy and overly dependent to awkward defiance. Mood swings was dominant answers of the respondents when they were asked to assess the effects of abuse on the emotional aspects when grouped according to the types of abuse. People who were abused regardless of whether it was physical, verbal or emotional suffered from trauma, successive depression and maltreatment which may have resulted to mood swings. Some of these children may display internalizing symptomology including withdrawal, depression, and blunted or restricted affect. Abused children may learn that being unheard and unseen they were at less risk for harm. As a result, they began to deny their own feelings and opinions. In the case of this study, the results show that most of the effects include different emotions such as sadness and happiness rather than blunted affect and lack of responsiveness. Self-mutilation, on the other hand, was considered by the respondents as least extent. From the conclusion the researchers drew some recommendations: 1. It is recommended to conduct seminars that can provide children with knowledge about their rights, and teach them the skills to identify abuse, ask for help, and avoid being re-victimized. Further, parents and caregivers need information and support to help them care for children in a positive and nurturing manner. 2. The researchers find out that most of the respondents have social conflicts. That is why, it is recommended to provide group activities for the students, especially for those individual who are very much dependent on other people. Through group dynamics they can improve their intrapersonal relationship with others. 3. It is recommended to conduct lectures regarding self-awareness so that students may learn to understand their emotions. 4. It would be better for the guidance office to make a routine interview of the students so that it would be easier for them to identify the needs and problems of the students. 5. It is advised that a program like family therapy for the involvement and awareness of the family members with the present condition of the student be provided.
