Work values of successful filipinos/ Filipe Landa Jocano. -- Quezon City; PUNLAD Research House, Inc., 2000. 119 p.; 22 cm.
This small volume is about successful filipino workers. It documents the role of Filipino traditional values in the lives of the respondents in their rise from poverty to comfort---i. e., from street beggar to business entrepreneur, from balut vendor to corporate lawyer, from security guard to corporate executive, from janitor to bureau director. I listened to the stories of those people on two occasions: once, when I wandered the streets of Manila looking for a job and was one of them, and later as a professional anthropologist conducting research on Filipino work values from 1997 to 1999. Their stories have impressed me; hence, i have decided to share them to other Filipinos, particularly the young who are just starting their careers. They might find lessons in the experiences of these successful respondents.
