This study was conducted during the first semester, school year 2001-2002. More specifically, the study sought answers to the following sub-problems: 1. What is the difficulty and discriminating indices of the DAT in the area of verbal ability, abstract reasoning, numerical ability and language usage? 2. What test items are internally valid as to difficulty and discriminating indices? 3. On the basis of the data gathered, which of the multiple-choice items will be retained, revised, discarded and sequenced according to index of difficulty? This study used the descriptive method of research in analyzing and interpreting the Differential Aptitude Test (DAT), a five-option multiple choice item test, using the high-low 27 percent group method of item analysis. The four areas included were the 50-item verbal ability, the 50-item abstract reasoning, the 40-item numerical ability and the 60-item language usage. It was based on the concept that standardized tests used for selective admission may be said to be effective if it can predict the future performance of a student applicant including academic achievement and the use of two or more tests as bases is better than the use of only one test. This study is not a replication of any study. Simple statistics were used to compute the difficulty index (P-value) and discrimination index (D-value). aCollege admission. cTHESjT 370 2002 153 c9597d9597 00104070aLRCbGSLd2026-07-30l0oT 370 2002 153r2026-07-30 10:37:47t1w2026-07-30yTHES
