    <subfield code="a">This study aimed to determine the self-concept of the high school students taking summer classes at Olivarez College in Summer 2003 with the end view of giving implications to guidance management. Specifically, it answered the following sub-problems: 1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of: 1.1 year level; 1.2 mental ability, and, 1.3 subjects failed ? 2. What is the level of the self-concept of the respondents as measured by the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale? 3. Is there a significant relationship between the self-concept of respondents and their year level, mental ability, and subjects failed? 4. What are the implications of the study to guidance management? In undertaking this study, the descriptive method of research was utilized using content analysis and evaluative techniques with the Tennessee Self-Concept scale as the main instrument for gathering data. The respondents were 27 first year, 27 second year, 23 3rd year, and 23 4th The following are the findings of the study: year. 1. Out of the 191 respondents 49.09% are in the first year, 50% second year; 56.09%, third year and 56.09%, fourth year, in mental ability, 19% are above average, 53% average, and 28% below average; for subjects failed, 46% failed in Science, 52% in Math, 26% in English, 38% in Filipino, 36 %  in Aralin, 18% in Algebra,, 2% in PEHM, 10% in THE, 20% in Values, 20%  in Statistics, and 36% in Composition.  2. As to level of self-concept, 19% are of high self-concept, 23%,  average, and 58% of low self-concept  3. There is no significant relationship between the self-concept and  year level and subjects failed There is significant relationship between self-  concept and mental ability.  vi  The following conclusions reflect the significant findings of the study:  1. The high school respondents are students from first to fourth year  levels, of average mental ability and failed mostly in the core subjects: Math,  Science, English and Filipino.  2. There is a need to strengthen the core subject areas of the high school  curriculum - Math, Science, English and Filipino.  3. The high school summerians are students with High, Average and  Low self-concepts.  4. Self-concept is not related to year level and subjects failed, however  self-concept and mental ability are significantly related.  5. The study calls for the revitalization of homeroom parent-teacher  associations where teachers and parents regularly discuss the academic, social,  emotional and physical problems and needs of children.</subfield>
