<subfield code="a">This study determined the profile of mothers who died from pregnancy or pregnancy-related conditions between the years 2000 to 2005 within the context of maternal health care services from facilities within ten barangays selected within Las Piñas City, Metropolitan Manila. It was conducted during the second semester of school year 2006 to 2007. This study sought to answer the following problems and sub-problems: 1. What is the incidence of maternal deaths in the selected barangays in Las Piñas City from 2000-2005? 2. What is the profile of maternal deaths in the selected barangays in Las Piñas City in terms of: 2.1 Age 2.2. Number of pregnancies and deliveries or parity 2.3. Frequency of maternal examinations and pre-natal check-ups. 2.4. Residence 2.5. Methods of deliveries 2.6. Complicated pregnancies 3. What are the common causes of maternal deaths in the selected barangays in Las Piñas City from 2000-2005? 4. Are there differences in the common causes of maternal deaths and the profile of mothers? 5. What maternal health care services are currently available to these mothers in terms of: 5.1. Services 5.2. Health Personnel 5.3. Laboratory services 5.4. Physical environment 5.5. Equipment 5.6. Health education program, and vi 5.7. Management in terms of integration of MHCP, supervision, and monitoring & evaluation. 6. Based on the findings of the study, what community based maternal health care program can be proposed? The descriptive method of research was used in this study. It described the profile of the mothers, and its relationship to their cause of death. It also described the current maternal health care delivery services available within the study area. Sampling was purposive in selected barangays accessible by the investigator. The instruments used were adopted from the Mother-Baby Package, a public domain package from the World Health Organization for assessing maternity facilities, for describing the district or city health team and the surveyor's observation. A separate form was developed for this study by the researcher for listing the profile of the mothers. The percentages indicated the proportion of mothers belonging to a particular age, parity, pre-natal check-ups, residence, methods of deliveries and complicated pregnancies and the causes of the deaths. The mean and standard deviation summarized the various profiles of the mother. The null hypothesis that was tested was that there are no relationship between the profile of mothers and the causes of their deaths in selected barangays in Las Piñas City. The alternate hypotheses that was formulated was that there were significant relationships between the profile of mothers and the different causes of their deaths in selected barangays in Las Piñas City.</subfield>
