Undergraduate Thesis
The research was conducted to identify the competency of staff nurses based on different categories namely: Safety and Quality Nursing Care, Management of Resources and Environment, Health Education, Legal Responsibility, Ethico-Moral Responsibility, Development, Quality Improvement, Personal and Professional Research, Record Management, Communication, and Collaboration and Teamwork. The research was conducted at San Juan De Dios Educational Foundation, Inc. (Hospital) located at 2772 Roxas Blvd., Pasay City. More specifically, the study sought to answer the following questions: 1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of: 1.1. Age; 1.2. Civil status; 1.3. Length of Service 2. What are the competencies of the SJDEFIH Nurses as to the 2.1. Safety and Quality Nursing Care; following: 2.2. Management of Resources and Environment; 2.3. Health Education; 2.4. Legal Responsibility: 2.5. Ethico-Moral Responsibility. 2.6. Personal and Professional Development; 2.7. Quality Improvement; 2.8. Research: 2.9. Record Management; 2.10. Communication; and 2.11. Collaboration and Teamwork 3. Is there a significant difference on the competencies of SDJEFIH nurses when grouped according to the profile variables? 4. What training model can be formulated based from the findings of the study? The number of respondents included in the study were 100 and those who belong to the age group 20 up to 40 years of age, and limited to staff nurses of San Juan de Dios Educational Foundation, Inc. (Hospital) in any area of assignment, i.e., those staff nurses in ward, emergency room, intensive care unit, and other areas of the hospital where there are staff nurses. The design of the study is descriptive. It is descriptive because the purpose of the study is to observe, describe, and document aspects of situation as it naturally occurs. There is no attempt to control or manipulate the independent variable. The researchers used structured questionnaire in determining the competencies of staff nurses in SJDEFI hospital. The tool used is based on the 11 Core Competencies of Nursing practice. The Dean of the College of Nursing. Research adviser, and two Level Coordinators validated the tool being used. Conclusions The researchers found out that the staff nurses of SJDEFIH are competent in terms of Safety and Quality Nursing Care, Management of Resources and Environment, Health Education, Legal Responsibility, Ethico-Moral Responsibility. Personal and Professional Development, Quality Improvement, Research, Record Management, Communication, and Collaboration and Teamwork. On the other hand, in every institution come individualized weaknesses. The researchers suggested a training model based on the data gathered for the improvement of care rendered for the client that can lead to patient satisfaction. The identified weaknesses are being sorted and used to make a training model. The model suggests improvement. The researchers found out that there is no significant difference on the competitiveness of SDJEFIH nurses when grouped according to the profile variables as computed using proper mathematical equation, the ANOVA, and being interpreted Recommendations The researchers would like to advocate for the improvement of the lowest mean score derived from the study. The improvement of the aforementioned weakness of the SJDEFIH staff nurses will lead to quality care and nursing knowledge development. In the research, the researchers would like to emphasize proper identification, interpretation, and validation of client's condition. Further, it will able to identify researchable problems regarding patient care. Based on the analysis of the data gathered, recommends practical solutions appropriate for the problem, it will also help nurses identify the proper approaches for the patient care. On documentation, the researchers would like to recommend enhancement on the observance of legal imperatives in record keeping because the medical record serves as a legal document for the protection of both institution and the patient. It should be clear, and maintain its integrity. On orientation and management, the researchers would like to recommend the use of seminars, orientations and management for the improvement of nurse-client interaction. These can enhance the quality of patient care of the staff nurses of SJDEFIH and these can lead to patient satisfaction. On health education, enhancement on the development of health education plan based on assessed and anticipated needs and with consideration on the social, cultural, economic and religion nature of the learner. Those factors are important to consider because it can affect the learner's capability.
