520 _aThis study aimed to determine the problems and needs of secondary English teachers in the Division of Pasay: implications to English instruction. Specifically, it attempted to answer the following sub-problems: 1. What is the demographic profile of respondents in terms of: a. gender; b. highest educational attainment; and, c. years of teaching? 2. What is the level of the problems encountered of the teacher- respondents as regards to: a. physical aspects; b. psychological aspects; c. instructional materials; d. teaching skills; e. teaching strategies/techniques; and, f. evaluation skills? 3. What is the level of the needs of the respondents that contributed to their teaching performance as regards to: a. upgrading; b. training; c. supervision; d. facilities; and, e. instructional aids? 4. Is there a significant relationship between the level of problems encountered and the demographic profile of the respondents? 5. Is there a significant relationship between the level of the needs and demographic profile of the respondents? The descriptive method of research was used in this study. The respondents, 62 public secondary high school English teachers were chosen through purposive sampling during the school year 2002-2003. The main instruments used were self made questionnaire of three parts. Part 1 is the profile, part II is the problems encountered and part III is the perceived needs of the teachers. The data were statistically tested using frequency, percentage, weighted mean and chi-square test of relationship.
