Dissertation note: Undergraduate thesis Summary: Production of graduates with considerable knowledge and skills that a professional accountant must possess is one of the primary objectives of the College of Accountancy.However, not all students who pursue the program of accountancy were really into the program. The choice of their program may not be based solely on their choice. Certain social conditions may also influence the decision making of the students toward their academics and career choices. These factors were found to have both positive and negative effects towards the students. The study aimed to determine the various social conditions that influenced the student{92}s choice of Accountancy program 1st year students at Olivarez College- Paranaque. This utilized a mixed method embedded research design through a researcher-made questionnaire that had 41 respondents The result showed that the majority of the respondents were female and are from the Accountancy,Business, and Management (ABM) strand. Students were found to be highly influenced by Job Opportunities, followed by personal choice and social status, having moderate influence. Lastly , parental and peer influence were found to have minimal to no influence. There is no significant relationship between the social condition that influenced the students to choose the accountancy program. Consequently , there is no significant difference between the social conditions when the respondents are grouped according to their sex. The output of the study is to develop a two-day program known as {91}Support Integration and Career Orientation program{92} for incoming first year students,which aims to help students to understand the various social conditions that may influence the student{92}s academic and career decision. The program integrates the collaboration between students, parents and peers promoting awareness,support, and motivation. Through a series of sharing sessions and interactive activities, the program would also enhance their self-awareness,clarify their and career goals. Students will also gain insight into the accountancy program and the accounting career, which will help them be aware of the realities and possible misconceptions.
